Behold... the Dome of the Rock.

This impressive architectural phenomenon is almost 1400 years old, and contrary to the opinion of centuries of European travelers, it is not a mosque, but rather a shrine... It covers the rock which Muslims believe to be the point from which the Prophet Muhammad ascended into heaven.

Covered in pure gold, the Dome is a true spectacle.

Hassmosabi - where is this taken from? I really want to go up to the Dome on this trip, how does one do this as a tourist?

It's easy - just walk up. Make sure though that it is not friday morning - things can get a bit busy up there. We can go together when you are in town, although I will not join you right to the top. Some people avoid walking in the Holy Sanctuary: Har Habayit, or Harem al-Sharif.

I think we're in Jerusalem town the Saturday after the wedding so I don't suspect you'll be that keen to join - but we'll talk closer to the time.
